Hey everybody!
Nadine and Mike had been talking about choosing a theme. I was wondering how many of you out there would be interested in playing "diplomatic" games -- stuff like Game of Thrones, Imperial, and Wallenstein/Shogun (I'm looking at you, Evan!). These tend to run longer, and are best with more players, so we should plan on at least three hours per game -- enough time to set-up, teach the rules, kibitz, trash talk, and, oh actually play the game, too... Thoughts? Interest? Too nerdy (duh!)? There could be an Apples to Apples game running concurrently, so that there is some socializing going on... Alfredo Lorente |

I have come up with a scenario that I can get Shogun taught and finished in 2 - 2.5 hours (rather than than the usual 3 hours).
If there is enough interest, I would be willing to teach Shogun at the April 21 meetup. http://www.boardgameg... Edited by Evan on Apr 1, 2007 7:22 PM |

Hey Evan!
April 21st is far too far into the future for me, but if I can make it, sign me up for a game. Alfredo |

Always wanted to try my hand at Diplomacy, reputedly complex in terms of the rules and learning-time, and by now probably old-hat and too boring, given more recent game choices. Anyone up to it ?? |

"I was wondering how many of you out there would be interested in playing 'diplomatic' games... Thoughts? Interest?" I gotta tell you, Diplomacy ain't my cup of tea at all. Part of it is the length of the game, part of it is that the backstabbing amongst newer players is brutal and constant. Having said that, If you are short a player or two, I could be convinced to help a fellow gamer get his fix. You may want to talk to the guys at The Source, see if they have contact info for First Minnesota, to see if they have a website or a mailing list or something, so you can try to find players that way. This group is not as big into the wargames as other groups, and I place Diplomacy squarely in the Wargame category. (For the record, Diplomacy is really weasy to learn -- your units can move, stay, or support. The interactions between the supports and what not are what may be complex at times.)
